Having regard to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 as amended in 1995 and the Customs Tariff (Identification, Assessment and Collection of Antidumping Duty on Dumped Articles and for Determination of Injury) Rules, 1995, the Designated Authority recommended imposition of Anti-Dumping Duty on imports of "Ductile Iron Pipes", originating in or exported from China. The Authority vide its final findings No. 15/1006/2012- DGAD dated 4.9.2013 recommended imposition of anti-dumping duties against dumped imports of the subject goods from the subject country. Duties were imposed by the Central Government vide custom notification No. 23/2013 -Customs (ADD) dated 10.10.2013.

On June 1, 2018, the United States imposed tariffs on Canadian, Mexican, and EU steel and aluminum under Section 232 of the US Trade Expansion Act of 1962.  These tariffs, said to be necessary for the protection of the national security of the United States, were an expansion of similar tariffs previously levied against other countries.  These tariffs against the United States' closest security and trade allies were roundly condemned by Canada, Mexico, and the EU.  These parties promptly responded with retaliatory duties of their own – for more information on Canada's response see Retaliatory Measures Canada Imposed in Response to U.S. Steel and Aluminum.
