Vietnam is not the main subject of the EU in trade remedy investigations. In fact, the total number of trade remedy investigations initiated by the EU against Vietnam only accounts for a small part, about 2% of the total number of cases initiated by the EU. In addition, the number of cases subject to trade remedy duties is only less than 2%.

Among trade remedy measures, anti-dumping is the measure that the EU uses the most on Vietnamese goods. The EU started using this instrument with Vietnam in 1997 with the anti-dumping investigation on monosodium glutamate imported from Vietnam. The Vietnamese products also subject to EU anti-dumping investigations are: footwear, bicycles, stainless steel, tube or pipe fitting. Notably, footwear with uppers were subject to anti-dumping duty twice in 2006 and 2016.
