Competition commissioner says inquiry could follow similar move to challenge China’s sales of electric vehicles in Europe

Currently, Việt Nam is the 23rd largest tea supplier to the UK market. However, Vietnamese tea exports to the market decreased sharply both in value and volume over the first half of 2023.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has imposed countervailing duties on Hyundai Steel and Dongkuk Steel, alleging that Korea’s cheap electricity rates are effectively subsidizing the Korean steel industry. 

The Financial Times and other influential Western newspapers are siding with executives from European automakers in voicing concern over the European Union's anti-subsidy investigation into imports of China-made electric vehicles.

In the nine-month period, Việt Nam exported about 6.61 million tonnes of rice, equivalent to US$3.66 billion, an increase of 23.1 per cent in volume and 40.4 per cent in value compared to the same period last year, said Nguyễn Văn Việt, director of the ministry's Planning Department.

The US’s increased trade defence measures on imports in general and Vietnamese goods in particular has made it increasingly hard to export to this market, according to Counsellor and head of the Vietnam Trade Office in the US Do Ngoc Hung.

China complained on Wednesday about the "very short" time provided by the European Union (EU) to engage in consultations for the bloc's inquiry into subsidies for electric vehicles (EVs).

Although new challenges pose for Vietnam's agricultural and food products in key export markets, the initiative and positivity of businesses alongsidecomplete legal framework are prerequisites for the growth of Vietnamese agricultural and food products in the international market.
