The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has voted unanimously to conduct full five-year reviews on frozen shrimp from Vietnam, Thailand, India, China and Brazil.
As a result of the vote, which took place 6 June, the commission will now interview U.S. producers, importers and foreign exporters and hold a public hearing to determine whether imports of frozen shrimp from those five countries will likely lead to material injury to U.S. businesses or industry.
In arriving at its decision, the commission received input from the American Shrimp Processors Association, the Ad Hoc Shrimp Industry Committee and the Ad Hoc Shrimp Trade Action Committee.
"The Southern Shrimp Alliance welcomes the commission's decision to conduct full reviews of the antidumping duties on shrimp imports," Southern Shrimp Alliance Executive Director John Williams said of the decision. "The Commission's unanimous vote is the result of the efforts of exceptional members of this industry who volunteered their time and energy to get the agency information and demonstrate the importance of trade relief to shrimpers.”
