HCMC – Thailand may impose anti-dumping tariffs of up to 40.49% on cold rolled steel sheets imported from Vietnam, according to Thailand’s Department of Foreign Trade (DFT).

The department under the Thai Ministry of Commerce last week released the initial results of an anti-dumping probe into Vietnam’s cold rolled steel sheets. The lowest tax rate is planned at 7.94%, the Vietnam Competition Authority of the Ministry of Industry and Trade said, citing information from the Vietnam trade office in Thailand.

DFT will give relevant businesses and agencies from Vietnam a chance to send their reactions on the investigation results and evidence to the department by October 6 before a hearing is organized on October 12.

Thailand initiated an investigation into Vietnam’s cold-rolled steel sheets in September last year.

In March, Indonesia decided to extend anti-dumping duties on steel imports from several countries and territories, including Vietnam, for five more years. Vietnam’s cold rolled steel is subject to anti-dumping duties of 12.3%-27.8%.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Industry and International Trade (MITI) in August last year announced to investigate cold-rolled steel imports from China, South Korea and Vietnam. Also last year, Malaysia probed cold-rolled stainless steel products imported from Taiwan, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Japan, China, Indonesia, South Korea and Vietnam.
