India: Overhauling of Import and Export Policy

In order to give a boost to India's exports and for diversification of Indian export markets and products, the Government has recently announced its Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2015-20, on 1.4.2015. The FTP 2015-20 also includes several measures to encourage domestic manufacturing under 'Make in India' mission of the government e.g. (i) Reduction in Export Obligation under EPCG scheme, in case capital goods are procured from indigenous manufacturers (from 90% earlier to 75% now), (ii) Higher level of rewards under Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS) for export items having high domestic content and value addition.
New tariffs on Chinese solar cells could raise costs for US buyers

In an effort to quell the dumping of Chinese solar products and provide US manufacturers with a more level playing field, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) has imposed new punitive tariffs on Chinese solar product manufacturers. The DOC’s July 8 ruling calls for antidumping duties as high as 259.9 percent and countervailing duties as high as 23.3 percent.

We know that foreign companies may decide to sell products below cost in order to get a foothold in worldwide markets. In other cases, government subsidies may reduce the cost of production resulting in below-market prices. When global companies try to import these products into the US, at lower prices than they are sold for in their home market, American competing industries cry foul and file antidumping and countervailing duty lawsuits.
