The Japanese government has requested that the World Trade Organization(WTO) form a panel to oversee a dispute involving antidumping duties imposed by South Korea on Japanese pneumatic valves.
Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Thursday that it requested the WTO to establish a subcommittee to look into Seoul’s decision, claiming it is possible the South Korean government violated the WTO pact with its antidumping duty.
Tokyo negotiated with Seoul on the matter in April, but the two countries failed to narrow differences on tariffs.
It is the second time South Korea was accused of violating the WTO pact with its antidumping duties, following a case involving Indonesian papers in 2004.
South Korea has imposed anti-dumping duties on Japanese pneumatic valves since last August, based on an investigation by the Korea Trade Commission.
