Agri exports to US hit $13 billion in 2022, just 6.7% of its total.

Huge potential remains for Vietnam to boost its exports of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries products to the US, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

 

Vietnam exported $13 billion worth of such products to the US last year, accounting for 24.4 per cent of the sector’s total export revenue but just 6.7 per cent of the US’s import value of these products.

 

The US imports over $200 billion worth of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries products each year, including coffee, fruit and vegetables, seafood, and wood and wooden products.

 

In order to further tap the opportunities in the US market, MARD has applied measures to improve the position, competitiveness, and market share of Vietnamese products, according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Trung.

 

At a meeting with President and CEO of the US Grains Council (USGC) Ryan LeGrand in Hanoi on September 11, the Deputy Minister said MARD has effectively and proactively promoted comprehensive cooperation with US partners in sectors such as animal husbandry, forestry, seafood, and climate change adaptation.

 

Mr. Ryan said the recent visit to Vietnam by US President Joe Biden will open up international cooperation. The USGC hopes to continue supporting MARD in building policies, developing logistics systems, and improving technical capacity.
