New Delhi, May 14 The government has decided to continue the imposition of anti-dumping duty on imports of caustic soda, used in soaps and detergents, from Indonesia and European, Union excluding France, to guard the domestic players from surge in cheap imports.
The Central Board Of Excise and Customs (CBEC) had imposed a duty of USD 415.46 per DMT (dry metric tonne) on caustic soda, CBEC said in a notification. The duty would be effective for a period of five years.
The Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) after finding that"the continuance dumping was likely to cause injury to domestic industry,"had recommended to continue with the imposition of definitive anti-dumping duty on the imports.
The DGAD had found that caustic soda are being imported from Indonesia and European Union excluding France, at below its normal value, which was causing material injury to the domestic industry.
Earlier, the government had imposed the duty on several other products including yarns, fabrics, colour picture tubes, some aluminum products and chemicals.
