According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VINAFRUIT), from September 1 to September 20, 2024, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports were estimated at 920.380 million USD, up 9.1% over the previous month and up 37.9% over the same period in 2023.
Regarding fruit and vegetable imports, since the beginning of the year, Vietnam has imported more than 1.6 billion USD, up 12.9% over the same period in 2023. Accordingly, the fruit and vegetable trade surplus after nearly the first nine months of the year is about 4 billion USD.
From now until the end of 2024, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover is expected to continue to grow strongly, especially in the context that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Administration of Customs of China have officially signed the Protocol on phytosanitary requirements and food safety for frozen durian exported from Vietnam to China and the Protocol on phytosanitary requirements for fresh coconut exported from Vietnam to China.
These Protocols will be a new factor promoting Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports, in addition to the increasing demand for fruit and vegetables in the world market in the last quarter of the year, especially for durian and coconut products for the Chinese market.
In 2024, durian exports are forecast to reach more than 3.2 billion USD, up 45% compared to 2023. Similarly, fresh coconut exports are forecast to increase by 50% compared to 2023 to more than 200 million USD in 2024.
In 2024, the export turnover of fruits and vegetables is forecast to reach more than 6.6 billion USD.
