Governments of 25 EU member countries could not reach to a consensus on application of anti dumping tax on Vietnam made leather upper shoes products in the meeting on September 27. Another ministerial meeting has been scheduled on October 5 to finalize this matter.
Currently, a temporary tax rate of 16,8% and 19.4% is imposed on Vietnam-made and China’s leather-upper shoes respectively. However, this duty would no longer in effect since October 6.
The EU Commission intends to apply anti dumping tax of 10% on Vietnam shoes products and 16,5% on similar imports from China. However, there existed opposite points of view among EU members which could not be resolved to reach an agreement, EU spokesman Peter Power said at a news briefing in Brussels.
While waiting for finalization, Wall Street Daily reported that on September 28th, France has solely decided that they would impose anti-dumping duties of 10 and 16.5 percent for leather footwear from Vietnam and China, respectively in the next 2 year.
