European Union raises tariffs on stainless steel products from India and Indonesia after finding it benefits from unfair subsidies, including some from China, under its Belt and Road investment plan It’s a schedule.
The European Commission, which conducted an inquiry, has set anti-subsidy tariffs on cold-rolled stainless steel flat products at rates between 4.3% and 21.4%, the EU Gazette said Wednesday. These complement existing anti-dumping obligations. Her IRNC in Indonesia is facing her new tariff rate of 21.4%, bringing the total tax rate, including anti-dumping duties, to 30.7% for him.
This is her second EU investigation into China’s cross-border subsidies. The commission said the new tariffs, which are due to take effect on Thursday, aim to repair the damage done to EU manufacturers such as Acerinox and Outokumpu. “Today, we are taking action against government-backed unfair subsidies in India and Indonesia that directly harm workers and businesses in this important sector,” said the EU trade chief.
The new tariff rate for Jindal Stainless Ltd. and Jindal Stainless Hisar Ltd. in India is 4.3%, bringing the total tariff to 14.3%. The subsidies took the form of preferential loans, tariff exemptions and cheap supplies of raw materials, according to the commission, partly because of restrictions on the export of raw materials. Indonesia also benefited from subsidies from China to build its stainless steel industry. China benefited by gaining a larger share of Indonesia’s nickel ore exports.
Valdis Dombrovskis. Indonesia said the EU’s findings did not take into account arguments and evidence presented by the government during the investigation. This “conclusively proved the absence of Indonesian government subsidies for the Indonesian stainless steel industry,” said Natan Kambuno, director general of the Ministry of Commerce. He said the government would coordinate with the companies involved on tariffs.
