Customs News to hold workshop with theme “what are solutions to develop Vietnam’s automobile industry under FTA”

Implementing the tariff reduction roadmap under EVFTA, and CPTPP..., the Government has issued many policies to support and promote the development of the domestic automobile industry such as policies on taxes, fees, charges, credit, and supporting industry...

 

However, during the implementation process, the domestic auto industry has not yet met expectations, especially since the localization rate is not high, imports are still higher than exports.

 

In order to evaluate the current status of Vietnam’s automobiles over the past year and the future prospects, Customs News will hold a workshop with the theme “What are solutions to develop Vietnam’s automobile industry under FTA” at hall No.116 of the General Department of Vietnam Customs’ headquarter on May 24, and record opinions from management agencies, experts and enterprises to contribute to perfecting policies to promote the Vietnam Automobile Industry Development Strategy to fulfill the goals and expectations of the Government as well as people and businesses.

 

At the workshop, representatives of State management agencies will discuss and interact with enterprises operating in the field of automobile manufacturing and assembly, automobile supporting industry enterprises, and automobile importers, representatives of joint stock commercial banks on contents such as assessing the current situation of Vietnam's automobile industry development strategy when implementing free trade agreements (EVFTA, CPTPP...), advantages and disadvantages.

 

At the same time, identifying difficulties and finding solutions to support Vietnam's automobile industry to implement free trade agreements (EVFTA, CPTPP...), tax and credit policies; supporting industry as leverage for Vietnam's automobile industry. Customs plays a role in facilitating trade, creating fair competition, and preventing and combating trade fraud in automobile import activities.

 

The workshop expects to be attended by leaders of the General Department of Vietnam Customs; the Department of Management and Supervision of Tax, Fees and Charges Policy (Ministry of Finance); the Import-Export Duty Department, and the Customs Control and Supervision Department (the GDVC) and local customs departments of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam Ninh, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Ba Ria-Vung Tau...; and representatives of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), Vietnam Association for Supporting Industries (VASI), experts, Joint-stock commercial banks, and about 150 domestic and foreign automakers and traders, and reporters of news and press agencies.
