Newly-promulgated regulations of China’s Government says all kinds of China’s food which will be exported to the US and other countries will be examined its safety since 1st September 2007.
According to China’s and international media, on 15th August 2007, Mr. Zhao Baoqing, the spokesman of China embassy in Washington announced at a press conference that all kinds of exporting food of this country would be examined at least one package in every consignment before being exported.
Mr. Zhao also said that after examining, the packages or consignments would be stamped by government as a certification.
This is the latest measure proving China’s efforts in order to improve the safety of its exporting food.
Recently, series of scandals relating to the quality of China’s goods, such as pharmaceutical products, food, toys, toothpastes, cosmetics, and so on, make international public worry about the quality of exporting goods of this country.
Many American officials in Washington say that China government and its exporters do not strictly impose necessary measures to guarantee safety and hygiene for its exporting goods.
Facing with this difficulty, China government affirms that new regulations will be complied with from now to the end of this year in order to regulate the activities of food industry and regain the confidence of domestic and foreign consumers.
“The safety of foods provided by China will be improved,” said Mr. Zhao, the former high ranking official of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China. He, however, emphasized that the quality of most of China’s goods which are exported to America was good.
According to him, from 2004 to 2006, more than 99% of China goods exported to the US met the American quality requirements and safety food standards.
He also informed that China Government cooperated actively with many other countries to find solutions to safety food problem. This nation also calls for the global cooperation in the fields of safety food and goods quality.
