China warns against EU's abuse of trade remedy measures

The National Democratic Alliance government has taken several protective measures against import of cheap steel, including imposing of MIP on 173 types of steel products ranging from $341-752 per tonne on 5 February 2016 for a period of six months.
The first installment of the new Global Steel Trade Monitor ranked China first in the world for steel exports, and the USA first for imports.
The EU on Thursday (4 August) imposed anti-dumping measures against some China and Russian Federation steel following industry complaints from the European Steel Association.

China's Commerce Ministry said on Thursday it "regrets" the European Commission's decision to put anti-dumping duties on Chinese cold-rolled steel plates, the latest spat between the trade partners battling a global steel glut.
The import duties range from 19.7% to 22.1% for Chinese and from 18.7% to 36.1% for Russian steel makers, according to the statement.
The Chinese tariffs hit grain-oriented electrical steel, used in the manufacture of large generators and electricity transformers.
The U.S. has also imposed preliminary duties on imports of cold-rolled steel on seven countries, including China at far higher rates.
"The EU today imposed definitive anti-dumping measures [on] a steel product from China and Russian Federation".
They had complained of dumping and consequent injury and requested for levy of anti-dumping duty on the imports from these countries.
It called on the European Union to "avoid abusing trade remedies and sending a wrong signal" to the world, and added that it was willing to work with the European Union to appropriately handle current problems facing the steel industry.
"Steelworkers are highly skilled specialists and they deserve our unconditional support", European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker told EU lawmakers earlier this year.
