China and US hold talks on food safety

China and US has scheduled a meeting in Beijing to discuss about food safety issues, including the recent US’s capture of 4 Chinese export consignments and the establishment of cooperation mechanism on food safety.
On July 18, a high-ranking official of Quality Assurance, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Board announced that Chinese food safety specialized experts and US Food and Drug Administration will hold a 5 day talk from July 31.
Prior to that, on June 28, US Food and Drug announced that they would seize China source seafood consignments, including silurus, basa fish and dace, unless China can provide sufficient proof to show that their exports are free from dangerous substances prohibited by US.
