The Finance Ministry has imposed definitive anti-dumping duty on opal glassware imports from China and the UAE.
Opal glassware is made from opal glass, which is a milky white glass widely used in lighting fixtures and tableware. It has a property of diffusing light, which makes the glassware attractive.
La Opala RG Ltd and Hopewell Tableware Pvt Ltd had filed the petition seeking sunset review investigation on these imports from China and the UAE.
Based on the recommendations of the Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry in its sunset review, the Revenue Department has imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty equivalent to 30.64 per cent of cost insurance freight (CIF) value on opal glassware imports from China.
In the case of UAE, the duty has been pegged at 4.38 per cent of the CIF value. The levy is valid for five years.
