Anti-dumping duty on melamine imports extended by one year

NEW DELHI, JAN 8: The Finance Ministry has extended by one year the validity of anti-dumping duty on melamine imports from China.

The existing anti-dumping duty - which is to lapse on February 19 this year - will now be valid until February 18 next year, the Revenue Department has said.

Melamine - a tasteless, odourless, non-toxic substance - is reacted with formaldehyde and made into resins or moulding powder for making innumerable products of beauty and utility.

Melamine formaldehyde is also used in laminates to offer hardness and resistance to scratch, stain, water and heat.

This Finance Ministry move follows the initiation of second sunset review investigation by the Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry.

Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd had filed the petition seeking continuation of anti-dumping duty on melamine imports from China.
