(Can Tho) – "The crucial keys to improve competitiveness of Vietnamese agriculture products include purity, deliciousness, quantity, low price. This requirement can be met only by uniting managers, farmers, entrepreneurs, scientists.
Economist Pham Chi Lan emphasized when analyzing impacts of WTO accession to Vietnamese agricultural enterprises at "Vietnam WTO commitments and its impacts in agriculture" meeting held by Agriculture and Rural Development Department yesterday, June 13th in Can Tho.
According to Ms. Lan, joining WTO, Vietnamese agricultural enterprises are facing challenges. Producing, trading management and related activities are insufficient: negligible, separated, slow transferred, incomprehensive, short of investment in value added phase, incoherent. Quality and food safety standard of Vietnamese agricultural products are low; harvest method, storage, processing productivity are inadequate with higher and higher demand of urban and foreign markets. Moreover, there are few strong brand names. Assistance measures on agriculture which do not comply with WTO regulations would be eliminated. The new system hasn't been built to handle challenges of competition. "Enterprises should take action immediately in order not to be left behind", Ms. Lan said.
