Vietnam sees steady growth of trade surplus with Cambodia

Vietnam’s trade surplus with Cambodia has grown steadily over recent years, according to the Vietnam General Department of Customs.
Trade surplus rose from US$595 million in 2006 to US$1.25 billion in 2010 and is expected to reach a record high this year after it hit US$780 million in the first five months.
Vietnam’s market share of exports in Cambodia ranks second after Thailand and is followed by China.
Last year, Cambodia ranked 13th in the list of 200 export markets of Vietnam in terms of export value.
Many made-in-Vietnam items secured firm positions in the Cambodian market like Biti’s footwear, Vinamilk beverages and Vissan processed food.
According to enterprises, Cambodia is a promising market for small enterprises as the market has a huge demand for low-priced products.
Bilateral trade between the two countries is forecast to pass US$2 billion in 2011 and hit US$6.5 billion by 2015.
