US: Portman Sends Letter to ITC Urging Continuation of Anti-Dumping Order on Tapered Roller Bearings

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio), former U.S. Trade Representative, joined three Senators in sending a letter to the International Trade Commission ahead of Tuesday’s review of the antidumping order on tapered roller bearings (TRBs) from China. The expected ruling is critical to protecting U.S. tapered roller bearing products, including three Ohio manufacturing facilities, from unfair dumping of Chinese products in U.S. markets.
“It is critical that those who violate U.S. and international trade laws are held accountable so that our domestic industry can thrive as it has always done in markets that sustain fair competition,” said the Senators in the letter.
Even with the antidumping order currently in place, China has continued to disregard international trading rules in an attempt to increase its exports and grow its TRB industry by dumping its products into U.S. markets. Many domestic TRB plants have been negatively impacted, forcing companies to close plants and reduce workers. If the antidumping order is revoked, this trend will likely accelerate, resulting in more lost jobs for Ohioans and other domestic TRB producers.
The International Trade Commission “sunset review” hearing on Tuesday will review the current antidumping duty on Chinese imports, which has been in place for over two decades.
