U.S. delays release of 2008 import duty review

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Commerce has delayed the release of preliminary review results for 2008 wood bedroom furniture shipments until Feb. 1.

The preliminary review was originally planned to be completed Oct. 5. The DOC said it needs the additional 120 days allowed by law to complete the analysis, which covers shipments for calendar year 2008.

The final results of the 2008 review will be due in early June, or 120 days after the release of the preliminary results. These results will determine whether Chinese bedroom producers warrant an increase or lowering of their initial duty rates.

The duties stem from a 2003 antidumping investigation on Chinese-made wood bedroom furniture. This investigation found that U.S. producers were injured by unfairly underpriced wood bedroom furniture imports from China.

Resulting duties assigned to various Chinese wood bedroom producers are paid by importers of record on these goods.
