UK extends anti-dumping duties on Indonesian biodiesel for five more years

The UK government has decided to retain anti-dumping duties on biodiesel imports from Indonesia for another five years after concluding that the measures remain necessary to protect the domestic market.
The decision follows a recommendation by the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA), which completed a review launched in December 2024 to assess whether the existing duties should continue and whether the product definition required revision, Ukragroconsult reported.
The Secretary of State for Business and Trade accepted the TRA’s findings, allowing the anti-dumping measures to remain in force.
As part of the review, the TRA recommended excluding sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from the scope of the duties, citing differences in production methods, feedstocks, customer base and the limited interchangeability between SAF and conventional biodiesel.
Under the revised product definition, the anti-dumping duties will continue to apply to biodiesel in the form of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) and paraffinic diesel fuels produced from non-fossil feedstocks, whether sold as pure fuel or blended with other fuels.
The duty rates will remain unchanged, ranging between 8% and 18%.
Before the UK’s exit from the European Union, trade remedy investigations were handled by the European Commission. Following Brexit, many of the EU’s trade protection measures were incorporated into UK law, with the TRA reviewing them to determine whether they continue to serve the UK’s interests.
The review of anti-dumping duties on Indonesian biodiesel is among the final transition reviews undertaken by the authority.
