On 4th June the United States of America submitted a petition to the World Trade Organization (WTO) for tougher measures against subsidies distorting world trade.
“It’s time for the next step in developing a stricter and tougher law-system of WTO for subsidies distorting world trade,” said the U.S trade Representative Susan Schwab.
From the view-point of the U.S, stronger measures are needed against subsidies in the series of industries, from producing steel to manufacturing semi-conducting equipment.
The U.S defines top five subsidies, distorting world trade, including the losses of enterprises are recovered by the States, enterprise debts are wiped off unconditionally, loans are made even when enterprises are not qualified, the States invest in under-standard enterprises, and other financial subsidies.
Although the above claims were made in the talk to resume the Doha round whose core and most serious matter is agricultural subsidy, no stronger measures against agricultural subsidy were mentioned by the U.S.
