The EU to Recognize that Belarus Has Market Economy

Belarus is being visited by a delegation of European Commission, headed by the director of the department of trade defense measures of Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Stefan Depieper. Its main goal is to launch the procedure of the European Union's recognition of market status of Belarus' economy, informed in Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The correspondent agreement on this issue was reached by the Deputy Director General of Directorate General of the European Commission on Foreign Trade, Peter Balash, who visited Minsk in January of this year, the press service of Foreign Ministry informs.

The delegation, headed by Stefan Depieper, is going to get information on what measures is implemented by the government to liberalize the economy. European officials will explain the term for the EU to recognize market status of Belarusian economy.

The framework of the visit also includes the European Commission delegation's meetings with the leadership of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Finance Ministries and National Bank.

Basing on results of this visit, the European Commission will work out a plan of further actions our country to receive the status of market economy country.

This status ensures impartial assessment of the value of goods, produced in our country, and it has great importance in the EU anti-dumping investigations in respect of Belarusian products.
