Thailand: Five imports face probe over dumping

The Commerce Ministry isinvestigating five products being imported into Thailand after learning thatthey could be part of a price-dumping practice to damage local industries.
The products include coated paperand paperboard products from China, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia and Taiwan;cold steel roll and hot-dipped zinc-coated steel products and steel productscoated with aluminium and zinc from China, South Korea and Taiwan; hot-rolledboron-coated steel and motorcycle rubber products from China.
Surasak Riangkrul, deputydirector-general with the Foreign Trade Department, said it would take about ayear to complete the investigation. If these goods are found to be part of theprice-dumping practice, then the ministry will impose an anti-dumping duty onthe countries involved.
The anti-dumping duty is apenalty imposed on imports sold at a suspiciously low price. The importingcountry can impose these duties to protect local industries from unfaircompetition.
Surasak said local businessescould file a complaint with the ministry if they think they are facing unfairtrade practices.
