Steelworkers union, steel manufacturers take anti-dumping action on China steel

THE United Steelworkers and four US steel manufacturers have filed a case seeking duties on drill pipe imported from China, an attorney representing the group said yesterday in the US.
The petition, filed on Wednesday, is the latest to target Chinese steel, which US manufacturers say is being dumped into the US market, triggering layoffs and plant closures.
On Wednesday, the International Trade Commission ruled that US firms are being hurt by Chinese government subsidies to makers of "oil country tubular goods", steel products used in the energy sector. The decision will result in countervailing duties between 10 per cent and 16 per cent on the Chinese products.
Attorney Roger Schagrin said the new petition seeks anti-dumping and countervailing duties on drill pipe from China, imports of which totalled $US200 million ($222.4m) last year.
The petition, first reported by Steel Business Briefing, was filed by the United Steelworkers union, TMK Ipsco, VAM Drilling, Texas Steel Conversion and Rotary Drilling Tools, Mr Schagrin said.
