Russia - Vietnam discussion on conditions to join WTO

According to information of Ministry of Trade, in yesterday afternoon representative of Vietnam and Russia met and discussed few bilateral issues such as market opening to tangible goods and services.

In the interview with VnExpress, Minister of Trade Truong Dinh Tuyen said that in theoretical after being WTO member, Vietnam is able to request Russia for a bilateral negotiation.

However, Vietnam wished not to put higher pressure on Russia because two countries have had a long friendship relation and Russia has just finished its bilateral negotiation with other partners. Two parties meet to solve and finding consensus on some bilateral issues such as market opening to tangible goods and services.

One officer of Ministry of Trade revealed that two parties need to have further discussion. This afternoon, Truong Dinh Tuyen will have a talk with Russia partner about this issue.

Russia began its WTO accession campaign in 1993, but its target is canceled several times because of difficulties caused by America. Up to November 11th 2006 Moscow was able to sign bilateral agreement with Washington in Hanoi. And now, Russia has finished its negotiation with 56 WTO members and hoped to join in at the end of this year.
