A report produced jointly the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), highlights the growing trade relationship between the two regions, but says policy-makers can enhance this further by recuing trade barriers.
The report was presented at the ADB's 45th annual meeting of the board of governors in Manila, the Philippines, on May 5.
The report said that while trade between the Latin American and Caribbean economies and Asian economies is presently centred on the commodities-for-manufacturing pattern, there is potential for enhanced trade benefits in future.
The report recommended policy-makers "can work to lower trade barriers and increase the scope of current and future free trade agreements".
