No trade barriers between Belarus, Ukraine

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – There are no obstacles for free trade between Belarus and Ukraine, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Belarus Igor Likhovyi told a press conference commenting on the situation surrounding the supplies of Belarusian sugar to Ukraine.
“Belarusian sugar is well-known in Ukraine. There are no obstacles impeding free trade between our countries,” the Ambassador said.
He said that at the meeting in Kiev in June 2009 the Prime Ministers of the two countries confirmed the readiness of Belarus and Ukraine to settle any issues immediately before a need for antidumping probes emerges. “Indeed, in the recent years we have used this notion rather rarely when it came to the relations between Belarus and Ukraine,” the Ambassador underlined.
Igor Likhovyi noted that the sugar supplies will depend on the sugar beet yield in Ukraine this year. “The Belarusian sugar beet is of a high quality and we buy this sugar. By the way, much of this sugar is purchased by the Obolon concern which is among major beer importers to Belarus,” the Ambassador said.
