The Russian Federation intends to start an antidumping investigation into Belarusian cheese supplies, Glafira Ermakovich, the director general of the food industry department of the Minsk City Council, told reporters on July 9.
According to her, Belarus has already reduced the supplies of cheese to the Russian Federation. “We do not know the reasons of it,” Glafira Ermakovich noted. Russia believes Belarus actively subsidies domestic cheese producers, which leaves Russian producers unable to compete with cheap Belarusian exports.
At the same time, the Belarusian side does not confirm the facts of dumping. Belarus’ charges for cheese production are some lower than Russian ones, so the Belarusian cheese is some cheaper than the Russian cheese. “At present export prices for food, including cheese, are determined by the market. We sell cheese only through the commodity exchange, with prices determined by the demand,” Glafira Ermakovich highlighted.
At present, the stock reserves of cheese in Belarus are around 6 thousand tonnes. “It is an alarm situation. So, we have started talks at the governmental level,” Glafira Ermakovich noted. “I hope the situation will change in the near future,” she added.
