BRUSSELS, July 17 (Reuters) - China has decided to challenge at the World Trade Organisation European Union anti-dumping duties on Chinese-made screws and bolts imposed by Brussels in January, sources with knowledge of the case said on Friday.

The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (Itac) has announced that a number of antidumping duties are due to lapse, if antidumping investigations are not initiated. The products in question are acetaminophenol imported from or originating in the Peoples Republic of China (China), France or the US; blankets originating in China or Turkey; bolts and nuts of iron or steel originating in China; nuts of iron and steel originating in Taiwan; paper-insulated, lead-covered electric cable originating in India; polyethylene terephthalate originating in Taiwan, India or the Republic of Korea; and unframed glass mirrors originating in India or Indonesia.

The spate of imports in caustic soda has increased by nearly 80 per cent in the first quarter of 2009-10, on an year-on-year basis, rendering domestic chlor alkali production unprofitable, claimed Alkali Manufacturers’ Association of India (AMAI). The imports of caustic soda in the industry had declined below 5,000 metric tonne (mt) per month (last year’s average was 11,000 mt per month) after imposition of anti-dumping duties on various sources resorting to dumping.
