Japan to initiate WTO proceedings against China

Following US’s initiation, Japan has started investigating China’s different preferential taxes to its state-owned companies which grant them many advantaged privileges.
Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akira Amari said: “We hope there will be prompt decision whether the US will participate in this case as a third party or not, which depends on the result of investigation.”
Prior to that, in February 2nd, the US also raised this matter to the WTO board. The US trade representative Susan Schwab alleges that China is using the tax to “encourage exportation and practice discrimination with imported goods”. The US will soon have bilateral talks with China and it is likely that two countries may have to go to WTO’s dispute settlement panel.
