The Fair Trade Commission warned three wholesalers against selling beer below fair value to retail giant Aeon Co.
The three wholesalers are Mitsubishi Shokuhin Co. and Nihon Shurui Hanbai Co., both based in Tokyo, and Itochu Shokuhin Co., based in Osaka.
The three companies are suspected of violating the Antimonopoly Law, the FTC said Wednesday.
This is the first anti-dumping warning by the FTC against alcoholic beverage wholesalers.
The three wholesalers sold a total of 10 kinds of beer and quasi-beer products to Aeon at prices below cost, starting around 2009, thereby putting other companies at a competitive disadvantage, according to the FTC.
