India initiate max antidumping measures in Jan-Apr

Governments largely restrained themselves from initiating trade restrictions, even as India, Argentina and China were among the top initiators of anti- dumping probes during January-April 2010, a report said on Monday.
During the first four months of this year, developing countries initiated the largest number of new investigations mainly India, Argentina, Brazil and China, the joint report of WTO, OECD and UNCTAD said.
India initiated 10 anti-dumping measures followed by Argentina (7), China (4) and Brazil (4).
"Despite the severity of the global financial crisis and its widespread impact on economies around the world, governments have largely resisted resort to trade barriers," it said.
However, the report said the first four months have shown a significant cooling-off of trade remedy use. Anti-dumping initiations of new investigations have decreased 35 per cent compared to the first four months of 2009.
Trade remedies include anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguard actions.
Anti-dumping is a WTO compatible tool to check cheap imports.
