India: Dumping duty on UAE, Iran white cement extended
25/05/2012 12:00
The Finance Ministry has extended the validity of existing anti-dumping duty on white cement imports from Iran, UAE until April 11, 2013.
This one year extension follows the anti-dumping directorate’s recent move to initiate sunset review investigations on white cement imports from UAE and Iran.
White cement is a construction material which is primarily used for non-structural purposes. It is used for flooring of tiles, cement based exterior paints and cement varnish.
The petition seeking sunset review was filed by J.K.White Cement Works and Birla White. Both together account for about 99.10 per cent of the total white cement production in the country.
The existing anti-dumping duty on white cement imports ended in April this year. With the latest extension, white cement imports from UAE will attract anti-dumping duty of $32 a tonne. In the case of white cement imports from Iran, the anti-dumping duty would continue to be $38 per tonne.
