NEW DELHI: India is considering imposing anti-dumping duty on imports of phosphoric acid, used by detergent and drug manufacturers, to guard the domestic industry from cheap Korean shipments into the country. “The provisional anti-dumping duty to be imp osed would be $218.63 per tonne,'' said an official.
The Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) has recommended to the Commerce Ministry imposition of the duty on imports of phosphoric acid to check the damage to the domestic industry, he said. Acting on an application from Gujarat Al kalies and Chemicals and Solaris Chemtech, DGAD had initiated the investigation into dumping of the acid from Korea.
“The domestic industry has suffered material injury,'' DGAD said, adding the injury has been caused by the dumped imports from Korea. Korea has exported 772 tonnes of phosphoric acid in 2006-07, which was gone up to 15,408 tonnes in 2007-08. India's tot al import of phosphoric acid in 2007-08 increased to 18,129 tonnes from 4,579 tonnes previous fiscal.
