It is reported that EU decided on August 27th to levy 24% antidumping duty on Chinese origin wire rods, effective for five years. As a matter of fact this is just one of EU protectionisms on China steel products for these years.
As per report, with the economic recession, EU launches a series of protection measures and with no doubt, China becomes the biggest victim. Hereby, economic analysts from both China and Europe figure that EU and China are the most important traders for each other so they should cooperate to resist trading protectionism amid the gloomy market.
According to the statistics by Commission of the European Communities, EU only launched two newly antidumping investigations in the first half of this year. However both of them aimed at China. In the meantime, EU also decided to levy temporary antidumping duty on Chinese wire rod and seamless steel tubes
Although main global economic bodies including EU all promised to oppose all kinds of protectionism at the summit meeting in London, yet EU broke its words after only one week causing dissatisfaction by EU import enterprises and consumers.
EU has launched lots of antidumping cases on China these years and most famous people around the world are quite annoyed by such kind of move. In addition what should be paid much close attention is that the result of those cases being raised since the H2 of 2007 will come out in succession these days.
Mr Duncan Freeman senior analyst noted that "It is easy for protectionism showing up for the moment as for the economic situation. Nevertheless, it is useless for each side. The two sides ought to work together at this very moment."
In order to weather through the bad economic situation for two sides, Chinese government has organized its enterprises to go to Europe for investment for four times this year, bringing many chances for both of them. Just as Mr Freeman said, China this move is an important attitude to Europe. Hence they should cooperate to pull through.
