According to Mr Le Quoc An, Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), continued effort will be made to request US DOC to remove monitoring scheme on Vietnam’s apparel exports.
On April 22, 2007, in Washington, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) will hold the first hearing on imposing the monitoring scheme on Vietnam’s apparel exports.
According to Mr An, the difficulty is that Vietnam is not yet recognized as market economy, which may lead to the misunderstanding that the States subsidies its industries. "We have informed to US DOC that Vietnam government neither directly nor indirectly provides any subsidies to the industy, even legal subsidies within WTO regulations. We will again convey this message to US side for their fully understanding",said Mr An.
Mr An also reaffirmed that Vietnam’s apparel exports is not dumped into US market and would not affect US industry.
