According to Mr Yao Jian, spokesman of Ministry of Commerce, The just-concluded G-20 summit has reiterated the objection to trade protectionism and urged to curb the utilization of trade and investment barriers. As a worldwide economic giant, the US should abide by its promise and keep cautious in the file of anti-dumping and countervailing case against oil country tubular goods from China.
Mr Yao said China's exports of steel products dropped some 55% from a year earlier in the first quarter of 2009 and steelmaker encountered severe difficulties, adding that against such a backdrop the application by the US industry is inappropriate. MoC is deeply concerned about the case. Mr Yao revealed China would organize a delegation to the US for further negotiation.
Mr Yao said China would continue to pay close attention to the investigations and would make proper response.
Seven US steel manufacturers and the United Steelworkers union have filed an anti-dumping and countervailing duty trade case against China on April 8th covering USD 2.7 billion of imports, alleging that steelmakers there unfairly dumped specific types of tubular and pipe steel onto the US market last year.
