China’s polymer industry considers anti-dumping protection

The China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA) said the country's petrochemical sector may call for anti-dumping measures to safeguard local manufacturing, according to reports in the Chinese People’s Daily.
"At present, the South Korean, American and Middle Eastern producers are targeting China to avert a domestic crisis. They are exporting petrochemical and polymer products to China at extremely low prices, severely hurting our domestic markets," said Feng Shiliang, vice-secretary of the CPCIA.
According to the association, Chinese ethylene production fell by 3% in October while polyethylene tumble 33%. Domestic petrochemical giants Sinopec and China National Petroleum suffered major losses last year, heightening anti-dumping calls.
November saw the value of China's petrochemical exports drop by 4% to £3.3bn, the first fall of 2008, compounding concerns.
