China looks at South Korea, Thailand acid imports

BEIJING, Feb 12 (Reuters) - China has launched an investigation into alleged dumping of terephthalic acid imported from Thailand and South Korea, the ministry of commerce said on Thursday.
The investigation includes purified terephthalic acid (PTA), used primarily in production of polyester.
The investigation over whether the imports harm Chinese producers will continue through Feb. 12, 2010, and can be extended until Aug. 12, 2010, the ministry said.
It is not unusual for China and other countries to conduct anti-dumping investigations, but in the economic downturn many countries are sensitive to any signs of trade protectionism.
