China lifts anti-dumping tax on newsprint imports

China lifted anti-dumping duties Tuesday that were imposed a decade ago on newsprint imports from the United States, Canada and South Korea.

Beijing imposed anti-dumping duties of up to 78 percent in June 1999 following complaints by Chinese paper suppliers. The Communist Party newspaper People's Daily said the original imposition of the duties was China's first anti-dumping case.

The Commerce Ministry said the duties, which were extended in 2004 for an additional five years, were lifted because no Chinese companies requested a review of the case.
