China calls for more talks in trade disputes

China's Ministry of Commerce says it wants to avoid a trade war at all costs. A spokesman for the ministry says major economies should use appropriate measures to resolve trade disputes before they escalate into an all-out war.
Yao Jian said there's been a swing towards trade protectionism as countries struggle under the weight of a financial crisis. A total of 208 anti-dumping investigations were launched last year, with more than a third of those targeting China. But Yao Jian says resorting to such measures will only worsen conditions in the global economy.
The spokesman referred to an agreement reached at the G20 meeting in London earlier in April to steer clear of protectionism as much as possible. Instead, countries should look at stronger negotiation, to nip disputes in the bud.
