Brazil slaps higher duties on Chinese shoes, tires

Brazil has slapped prohibitive tariffs on imports of Chinese shoes and tires, as part of an ongoing anti-dumping dispute.
"(The measures) will be in effect from today ... 12.47 dollars for each pair of shoes imported from China," the country's Industry Ministry said in a statement.
The second measure will see tires come under higher tariffs for up to five years, at a rate of 0.75 dollars a kilo.
The decision to introduce the new import duties comes amid allegations by Brazil that China is selling both items below the original market rates.
