The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service has issued a preliminary determination that the Australian biodiesel industry is being harmed by subsidised biodiesel from the US being dumped on the Australian market.
A preliminary affirmative determination and imposition of securities issued by Customs on October 18 stated that the dumped and subsidised goods appeared to have caused material injury to the Australian industry and calculated a preliminary dumping margin of 40%.
The application to investigate the dumping had been lodged by Biodiesel Producers Ltd.
On July 7, supporting the action, Australian Renewable Fuels Ltd said that a US stimulus package incentive made available to the US biodiesel manufacturing industry was giving a benefit of $US1 ($A1) per gallon of product and enabling its export to countries such as Australia.
In July, the Australian Biofuels Association estimated that 20 million litres of US-produced biodiesel had been imported to date, with a further 50 million litres in transit.
