Australia: Council welcomes timber dumping probe

The District Council of Grant says it is likely to make a submission to Customs on an anti-dumping investigation of the timber industry.
Australian Customs and Border Protection Services will investigate complaints overseas companies are dumping structural timber products on the Australian market.
Mayor Richard Sage says dumping affects local companies and jobs in the south-east region of South Australia and the council will follow the investigation through.
"[We will] see if there's an opportunity for council and the stakeholder group to put a submission forward to ensure our voice is heard," he said.
"I think it's a way of making sure we retain jobs in the region, that's probably the utmost on the council's and the region's mind to make sure that we have got the evaluating of our timber asset in the region and retain those jobs.
"We need to make sure that if products are imported into Australia that they're coming in for the right reason and for the right price and on a level playing field."
