US to apply higher examination fee on imported fresh vegetable

The US Department of Agriculture has issued a new regulation in which imported fresh vegetable will be subject to a 15% higher examination fee for the financial year 2007-2008. This new regulation will come into effect from August 31, 2007.As stated in an article of 1937 Act on marketing activities in agriculture, whenever US Department of Agriculture issued new regulations on domestic agricultural products in terms of classification, size and quality, similar updates will be applied for imported like products.
Currently, 14 agricultural products are subject to verification requirements before entering US market, namely avocados, date (except date for processing), filberts, pomelo, kiwi, olive, onions, oranges, potatoes, peaches, raisins, table grapes.
