The timber industry is entering a new recovery cycle thanks to stable orders

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Handicraft and Wood Processing Association, many businesses have already secured orders for the entire first quarter, and even the beginning of the second quarter of 2026. This is a positive sign for the wood industry in 2026.
Viet Nam's wood exports in 2025 have not yet reached their target due to tariff fluctuations from the US. Looking ahead to 2026, Mr. Phung Quoc Man, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Handicraft and Wood Processing Association (HAWA), stated that there have been no unfavorable signs so far this year, and most members and other businesses in the industry have orders to continue production until the end of the first quarter.
Many businesses have production orders booked until May, or even June 2026, creating a positive signal that helps businesses be more proactive in preparing raw materials, planning production, and allocating labor.
Furthermore, the US's temporary suspension of high tariffs on kitchen cabinets and shelving until the end of this year has created more room for businesses to maintain production and exports. As a result, wood businesses are not currently facing a shortage of orders.
Analyzing the industry's opportunities in 2026 in more detail, Mr. Phung Quoc Man believes that the wood industry has the foundation to both stabilize and expand, with the export target of 18-19 billion USD being challenging but achievable, if businesses continue to invest in technology, promote green transformation, digital transformation, and enhance design value.
To enhance Viet Nam's timber industry's position on the global trade map, the Forestry and Forest Protection Department ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) is currently focusing on developing a green, sustainable supply chain linked to quality and flexibility, considering it the foundation for Viet Nam's timber industry to improve its standing on the global trade map.
