Steel firms in U.S. anti-dumping ruling will be helped: BOFT

The Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) said Sunday that local companies influenced by a U.S. anti-dumping ruling will be compensated for litigation expenses, after Washington decided Friday to impose dumping duties against some foreign steel pipe producers.

The U.S. International Trade Commission voted to impose anti-dumping duties against steel pipe imports from six countries -- India, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine and Vietnam.

The BOFT said the government will provide litigation expenses for local firms involved in the ruling.

It also warned local companies to pay attention to a trend of rising anti-dumping litigation tactics in international trade.

Two Taiwanese firms influenced by the anti-dumping ruling are Chung Hung Steel Corp. and Tension Steel Industries Co.

The U.S. International Trade Commission is expected to notify the U.S. Department of Commerce of the ruling Sept. 2 so that it can issue the duty.

The U.S. Department of Commerce could impose tariffs as high as 118 percent on tubular goods, according to a report by Reuters.
